The Lighting Designer is responsible for the artistic and technical design, programming, and execution of lighting for all major performances at Lawrence Central High School. This includes mainstage theatre productions, the annual holiday show, and additional performances as assigned. The Lighting Designer collaborates closely with directors, technical staff, and student crews to enhance the visual storytelling and production quality through innovative and effective lighting design.
Design and implement lighting for all major Lawrence Central productions, including fall and spring plays/musicals, the holiday show, and additional concerts or showcases as scheduled.
Collaborate with directors and production teams to develop lighting concepts that support the artistic vision, mood, and pacing of each performance.
Oversee and program lighting cues using school-provided lighting equipment and software.
Coordinate with the technical director and stage manager to ensure timely installation, focus, and tech rehearsal processes.
Supervise and mentor student lighting crew members, fostering safe and educational hands-on experiences.
Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, and performances as needed.
Maintain, inventory, and recommend updates or repairs for lighting equipment and systems.
Experience in lighting design for theatre and live performance.
Proficiency with lighting control systems rigging, and programming software.
Strong understanding of lighting instruments, color theory, cueing, and stagecraft.
Excellent organizational, time-management, and collaboration skills.
Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for student participants.
Experience working in an educational or high school setting.
