Civil Engineer I Job Summary:
Under the supervision of a licensed Civil Engineer, performs entrance-level professional civil engineering work in connection with surveying, designing, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects; and performs other work as required. The ideal candidate should be ready to learn. They must be able to ask questions when they don’t understand an assignment and be able to take constructive criticism. The hourly rate of pay range is $37-$45. Pay range varies depending on applicable experience and software proficiency. 

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepares plans, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for the design and construction of land development infrastructure including: storm drains, hydraulic structures, street improvements, ADA Path of travel, pipelines, minor structural projects and ground-water facilities.
  • Prepares cost estimates for design projects; prepares applications for land division projects, and submittals to agencies for plan reviews, writes letters pertaining to the construction of projects.
  • Carry out inspection of construction projects.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an ABET accredited college with a degree in engineering.
  • Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer in Training by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers may be substituted for the required education. A copy of the EIT certificate must be turned in with the application by the filing deadline in order for the application to be accepted.
  • Have a Valid California driver's license.
Software Knowledge Requirements:
  • Basic Knowledge of Autocad drafting software
  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
Time Management:
Engineers at all levels are expected to be able to effectively manage their time.  This includes accurate logging of hours to time tracking software.  Being aware of time limits on projects, and alerting their supervision of changes is scope that will affect hours spent on projects.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently move about inside the office. Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work outdoors, in varying temperature conditions. Must be able to move items up to 25 lbs.
