About the business and the role. 

Monkeytoe Group is a Australasian company with offices in Melbourne, Auckland, Hawera, Wellington and Christchurch The team is over 130 strong in total with 70 of those based in Hawera where the primary manufacturing takes place. 

Monkeytoe is an engineering lead organization with a strong focus on our structure design expertise. We design, supply and install building appendages such as stair towers, roof egress systems, structural plant platforms, stand alone acoustic and visual screening systems and many other structures. 

Our clients range from Lead Architects and project managers across NZ and AU to facilities managers for shopping centers or water infrastructure projects. 



Description

1. Generate pricing for complex projects 

  • Use mark-ups provided by the take-off team to produce detailed and accurate quotes 
  • Apply experience and sound judgment to estimate where information is limited or unclear 
  • Guide lesser experienced estimators to ensure all quoting is of top quality

2. Support and manage contract variations 

  • Work with project managers to identify and prepare variation claims 
  • Ensure variations are documented and submitted in line with contractual requirements 

3. Maintain and develop pricing systems 

  • Take ownership of the tools and processes used for pricing 
  • Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency 
  • Train the team in effective use of the tools 

 4. Review and assess client contracts 

  • Identify key commercial terms, risks, and deliverables and use your commercial acumen to price accordingly 
  • Flag clauses that may impact pricing, delivery, or liability 

5. Closing sales 

  • Work closely with the sales team to present and close out contracts 


Skills And Experiences
  • Experience in estimating or quantity surveying, particularly on complex or custom construction projects 
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret construction plans, scopes, and client contracts 
  • Proficiency with digital pricing tools and systems 
  • High level of accuracy, sound judgment, and the ability to apply pricing logic where detail is limited 
  • Effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and clients 
  • Formal training in Quantity Surveying or Estimating (e.g. NZ Diploma in QS or equivalent) 
  • Understanding of NZS 3910 and other standard construction contract forms
