Description
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a critical role in the commercial success of major construction projects, taking full ownership of cost management, contracts, and financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-performance environment, brings strategic thinking to complex challenges, and enjoys leading teams to deliver results. You’ll be deeply involved in all project stages - from tendering and procurement through to final account - while mentoring junior QS staff and collaborating closely with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the commercial delivery of medium to large construction projects, ensuring profitability and cost efficiency
Develop, manage, and track project budgets and forecasts with precision
Oversee subcontractor payments, interim valuations, and final accounts
Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks, including claims and variations
Review and approve bills of quantities, payment certificates, and procurement schedules
Guide and mentor a team of quantity surveyors to support their growth and performance
Facilitate clear communication with clients, contractors, and project teams
Monitor project progress, provide accurate financial reports, and present commercial insights to senior management
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and BEE requirements where applicable
Profile
Requirements:
Degree or BTech in Quantity Surveying or Construction Studies
5+ years’ quantity surveying experience on large-scale construction projects
Strong knowledge of contract law and standard forms (e.g., JBCC, NEC, FIDIC)
Proficiency in measurement, cost control, and financial reporting
Skilled in construction software and Excel-based reporting tools
SACQSP registration is advantageous
