CARPENTER

JOB SUMMARY:

The Carpenter performs carpentry and construction related repair work and new construction throughout the site, works independently on projects as assigned by the Head Carpenter, works with and helps to train Carpenterโ€™s Helpers, and helps to clean and maintain the carpenter shop and tools. May require some weekends, late nights, and early mornings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with keeping shop clean and safe
  • Perform basic carpentry skills unsupervised
  • Use various shop tools and hardware, measure lengths and quantities, and assess needs for repair work or new construction
  • Finish surfaces and edges to a professional quality
  • Complete other construction projects (not specifically wood) as needed
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, or use a lift to reach heights up to 30 feet
  • Work in tight spaces and awkward positions
  • Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Training and/or experience of at least 1 year that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid Texas Driver's Licenseย 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Knowledge of all common construction materials and tools
  • Must be reliable and responsible
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work outside in weather extremes including high temperatures during a Texas summer
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to push and pull objects orย materials weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 30 feet for extended periods of time, with the ability to reach, often times overhead
  • Ability to grasp, lift, or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, occasionally waist high
