We've placed over 10 people within this organization and are true brand champions based on this client's unmatched focus on internal employee engagement and progressive, people-first policies.

Our client is seeking a Licensed Architectural Designer/Manager with deep experience designing and delivering educational facilities, particularly those requiring Division of the State Architect (DSA) review and approval. This role is a key part of a collaborative team focused on shaping learning environments across California, from K-12 schools to higher education and community college campuses.

You'll lead projects from concept through construction, working closely with clients, DSA reviewers, and consultants to deliver thoughtful, code-compliant, and functional spaces for students and educators.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the architectural design and planning of public education projects, ensuring alignment with DSA requirements and educational best practices.
  • Collaborate with school districts and education clients to understand program needs, budgets, and timelines—and translate those into design solutions that support student success.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of DSA submittal packages, revisions, and approvals.
  • Guide design development, construction documentation, and construction administration across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Mentor junior team members, offering leadership in technical detailing, code compliance, and professional growth.
  • Partner with engineers, consultants, and contractors to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and communication across project teams and stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits during construction to monitor progress, answer RFIs, and ensure DSA-approved design intent is upheld.
  • Stay current on changes to the California Building Code, Title 24, and DSA regulations.
  • Support proposal development and client presentations, helping to grow the firm’s educational project portfolio.

What You Bring

  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Licensed Architect in the state of California.
  • 5–10 years of architectural experience, with a strong emphasis on public education and DSA-reviewed projects.
  • Proven ability to lead projects through DSA submittal, backcheck, and closeout.
  • Deep knowledge of the California Building Code, Title 24, ADA, and DSA guidelines.
  • Strong portfolio of K-12, community college, or higher ed projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to school boards and facilities committees.
  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable school design is a plus.
