We are currently hiring for a Transportation Structural Project Engineer II on behalf of a well-established engineering firm based in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
This role is ideal for an experienced structural engineer with a deep background in bridge design and transportation infrastructure. You’ll take the lead on project delivery, design oversight, and client collaboration—playing a central role in shaping the structures that move communities forward.
Position Summary
As a Transportation Structural Project Engineer II, you'll be responsible for managing and designing a range of transportation structures, primarily focused on bridges. The position requires technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strong understanding of design standards and public infrastructure processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of new and rehabilitated bridge and transportation structure projects
- Oversee project scope, budget, and schedule to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery
- Prepare contract documents and support construction-phase services
- Coordinate efforts with internal design teams and external subconsultants
- Supervise and mentor engineers and drafting professionals
- Communicate directly with clients and foster long-term professional relationships
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Maryland
- 10–15 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on bridge design
- Proficient in AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications
- Experience with Maryland Department of Transportation projects and standards
- Strong understanding of design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years' experience leading engineering and drafting personnel
Working Conditions
This is a full-time, office-based role located in Hunt Valley, MD. The work environment is professional, collaborative, and conducive to both independent focus and team interaction. Occasional travel or field work may be required depending on project needs.
