Seattle Public Utilities is looking for Senior Civil Operations Engineer (Civil Engineer, Sr.) to serve as an Operations Engineer in its Water Line-of-Business.
As a Senior Civil Operations Engineer at SPU, you’ll represent Operations and Maintenance on capital projects, leveraging your extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles. You’ll be the go-to subject matter expert for operational needs on critical projects, including Wastewater Line of Business (WLOB) and Drinking Water/Wastewater (DWW) initiatives.
Leveraging your expertise, you’ll design mechanical features for emergency repairs and temporary systems, working closely with SPU Operations and Maintenance and Transmission/Distribution crews. Day-to-day responsibilities include active participation in CIP workgroups, meticulous review of consultant and in-house plan sets for maintainability by SPU crews and ensuring seamless project execution. Key Responsibilities Include:
Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years professional civil engineering experience
OR
In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited program, nine (9) years of civil engineering work experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer may be substituted. There is no equivalency for the PE license.

This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Starting November 4, 2024, City employees will have the option to work remotely two days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
