Position Title: Senior Lighting Designer
Location: Soho - ONSITE
Reports to: Head of Design Department: Design/Lighting Department
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
 
Job Summary:
The Senior Lighting Designer will play a key role in the design, and execution of lighting solutions for a variety of projects, including architectural, commercial, retail. This role requires a blend of creative vision, technical expertise, and leadership skills. The Senior Lighting Designer will work closely with clients, architects, M&E engineers, and other design professionals to develop lighting concepts that enhance the aesthetic, functional, and environmental aspects of the space. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio, advanced knowledge of lighting systems and technology, and the ability to lead a team of designers. 10 years + within the industry is essential, Excellent knowledge of both RELUX, and DIALux, good understanding of AutoCAD
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual Design and Creative Vision: Lead the development of lighting concepts, designs, and presentations for projects, balancing creativity with technical feasibility. Provide innovative and sustainable lighting solutions that meet the client's needs and project objectives.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple lighting design projects from conception to completion. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively. Ensure that designs are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Technical Expertise: Specify lighting fixtures, control systems, and other related equipment. Provide technical calculations, including lighting levels, energy usage, and control system configurations. Ensure the integration of lighting systems with other building systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other design professionals (architects, interior designers, engineers) to ensure seamless integration of lighting design into the overall project. Communicate design ideas and modifications clearly to all team members.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor junior lighting designers, providing guidance and feedback on their design work. Lead project teams, delegating tasks and responsibilities to ensure successful project execution.
  • Client Interaction and Presentations: Engage directly with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and vision for the project. Present design concepts, proposals, and mock-ups to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Sustainability and Innovation: Stay current with emerging lighting technologies, trends, and sustainable practices. Incorporate energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting solutions into designs whenever possible.
  • Quality Assurance and Site Supervision: Oversee the installation of lighting systems to ensure that designs are implemented according to plan. Conduct site visits to verify design accuracy, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in lighting design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise across diverse project types (e.g., architectural, entertainment, retail, hospitality).
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in lighting design software (AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32, RELUX, DIALux, etc.), as well as knowledge of industry-standard lighting control systems (DMX, DALI, etc.). In-depth understanding of lighting technologies, energy-efficient lighting solutions, and building codes.
  • Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proven experience in handling budgets, schedules, and teams.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of designers, ensuring high-quality work and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Creativity: A strong sense of design aesthetics and a passion for innovation. Ability to think outside the box while staying within technical and budgetary constraints.
Desired Skills:
  • Certification or membership with relevant professional organisations (e.g., IALD, PLDA, IES).
  • Experience with 3D rendering software or virtual reality (VR) platforms for design presentations.
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) systems.
