The Role
Reporting to the Operations Director, the Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for pricing
projects, managing costs, and ensuring that agreed margins are achieved throughout the
project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will bring roofing and cladding experience,
commercial acumen, and strong communication skills to support both pre-construction and
live project delivery.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate take-offs, measurements, and cost estimates from drawings, bills of quantities, and site surveys.
- Price projects to agreed margins and prepare detailed budgets and cash flow forecasts.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best value on materials, plant, and labour.
- Ensure labour and plant rates reflect current market conditions.
- Prepare and submit interim valuations, variations, and final accounts in line with deadlines.
- Monitor project costs and liaise closely with Project Managers to ensure budgets are achieved.
- Carry out value engineering exercises and make cost-saving proposals to clients where appropriate.
- Certify subcontractor works and maintain accurate records of costs and variations.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of company processes and commercial strategy.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent professional qualification.
- 7+ yearsβ experience in construction, with a minimum of 4 years in roofing and cladding (essential).
- Strong understanding of roofing and cladding systems, materials, and site processes.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with proven budget management ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general estimating/measurement software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Full clean driverβs licence: some travel to project sites will be required.
