The Fairfield Community Arts Center is seeking a Part-Time Theater Set Builder/Carpenter for year-round theater productions. The builders are responsible for constructing, painting, and working with tools and materials for theatrical rehearsals, productions, and special events. Responsibilities may also include; inspecting equipment, quality assurance of the set, translating sketches/designs and coordinating with other support staff. The set builder/carpenter will work alongside other theater staff, including the Production Manager, Theater Coordinator, and performers to plan and carry out the set construction for every performance.
Examples of Duties
Preparation of stage, audio, and visual settings for shows and events, as well as maintenance of the quality of the set throughout a performance.
Set up other components of the show experience in relation to show design in various places in the theater.
Checking equipment functionality, utilization of machinery, proper use of tools such as paint brushes, electric drills, caulk guns, and other equipment.
Repairing and troubleshooting set construction issues, as well as maintaining the work area for other professionals to ensure safety and productivity.
Attend meetings with key professionals before rehearsals and help organize cues to perfect the order of execution for effects, music, and other sounds.
Typical Qualifications
Candidates for the Theater Set Builder/Carpenter may learn on-the-job; however, postsecondary training is an asset. Knowledge of power tools, basic construction, and a strong sense of design are highly encouraged. A certificate or associate's degree is preferred.
Supplemental Information
Hours vary between 10 to 30 hours per week and include evenings and weekends. The pay range for this position is $12-$16/hr depending on experience.
