The Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill a Master Electrician/Controls/Fire Alarm Specialist position on our first shift. The primary purpose of this position will be to maintain existing operation, and work as a team to achieve the long term goals of the Burlington School District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of lighting fixtures, electrical
apparatus, fixtures, wiring and similar electric elements in the facilities owned or
operated by the district.
- Pulls Permits when required.
- Assists with installation, maintenance and repair of other systems and equipment, makes mechanical and electrical repairs to building automated equipment.
- Performs electrical repair work in the school district.
- Troubleshoots building control issues as well as components in the field to maintain building system
integrity.
- Performs all duties to electrical and safety codes.
- Performs testing procedures to troubleshoot electromechanical and fire alarm systems on building equipment.
- Instruct custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper
use and maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintain the inventory of repair
supplies and materials.
- Estimate the costs of electrical repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead.
- Supervise the installation and operation of lighting and electrical sound equipment in
auditoriums and gymnasiums for special theatrical, athletic or other performance events.
- Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-
community relations.
- Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Performs maintenance and repair of various facilities as indicated on daily work orders.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Attend scheduled department meetings.
- Prepare/Complete appropriate reports/paperwork.
- Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
- Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.
- Ability to program and inspect all district fire alarms or the ability to obtain the skills within 2 years.
- The ability to manage and maintain the latest lighting systems.
- Ability to maintain and manage district security systems (Cameras/door access).
- Working knowledge of district solar electric and vehicle charging stations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain a valid Vermont driver’s license.
- Must have valid Vermont Master’s Electrician License with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- Relevant work experience and must be able to furnish references attesting to the work
- Experience in the following TQP fire alarm camera systems and door security systems.
- Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Must have good interpersonal and human relations skills.
- Flexibility and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with little or no supervision; ability to
work independently.
- High level of security integration experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES – PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Possess visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor for at least part of each
day.
- Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90
minutes at a time throughout the workday.
- Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain standing for a period of up to 90
minutes at a time throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to carry up to 60 lbs.
- Frequent walking, light lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, bending, stooping, climbing
(including ladders) or other physical activities.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:
Compensation is based on experience. In addition to great health benefits and paid time off, this full-time position is an hourly position paid Bi-Weekly. First shift hours are primarily 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday during the school year. BENEFITS: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
