We are seeking a talented and motivated Marine Cost Estimator to support the development and production of autonomous surface vessels. This role will provide hands-on experience in traditional ship building and advanced autonomous technologies; driving impact in defense and commercial innovation. As a Marine Cost Estimator, you’ll lead cost analyses of production vessels and estimate cost for future vessels during proposal and design phases.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development, analysis, and construction of ASVs
Scope labor, material, equipment, and time required
Analyze costs and prepare bids to support proposal team
Develop and maintain cost database and documentation for historical analysis
Collaborate with supply chain team to track as-built vessel costs and collect cost data from vendors
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, finance, engineering, or related field
Knowledge of shipbuilding processes, components, and costs
Strong Excel skills, especially advanced financial modeling and analytical techniques
Excellent analytical skills with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
Deadline driven and an ability to prioritize tasks
MS Office/Google Workspace skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to solve problems as they arise
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk around shipyards, dry docks, or marine construction sites.
Occasionally climb ladders or stairs for vessel inspections or site assessments.
Stand or walk for extended periods during on-site evaluations.
Normal or corrected-to-normal vision to read blueprints, CAD drawings, and detailed cost data.
Depth perception and color vision may be helpful during vessel inspections.
Adequate hearing to communicate in potentially noisy environments like shipyards.
Ability to use a computer and calculator for extended periods (keyboard/mouse use).
Occasional use of measuring tools or documentation tools during site visits.
Occasionally lift or carry light equipment, tools, or documents (usually under 25 lbs).
May be required to travel domestically or internationally for site inspections, client meetings, or project reviews.
