Our San Luis Obispo, California team primary focuses on developing both software and hardware for prototype sensors used in non-destructive testing. This involves programming near hardware-software interfaces, developing or modifying embedded device drivers on Linux and other embedded kernels, implementing signal processing algorithms, implementing hardware abstraction layers, interfacing with FPGAs, and targeting resource-constrained processors. Our Columbus, Ohio Software and Data Science team works with large data, developing machine learning models to deliver high quality solutions to our partners.

Geotechnical Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing geohazard technology system infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists and GIS specialists to acquire geospatial data, and conduct geohazard assessments for critical infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the development of predictive machine learning models and data-driven algorithms for geohazard risk assessments.

  • Develop data processing workflows for geospatial and geotechnical hazard modeling.

  • Prepare technical reports, documents, and presentations for stakeholders and decision-makers.

  • Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering, data science, and machine learning to contribute to ongoing company innovation.

  • Participate in general team responsibilities and perform other related duties as required.

Essential Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geosciences.

  • 1 – 3 years of applicable experience (including internship, research or project experience).

  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, geomorphology, and geohazards.

  • Experience with geospatial data processing and analytics using Python and GIS tools.

  • Exposure to machine learning techniques and their applications in engineering.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Knowledge/Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering

  • Experience with remote sensing technologies for geohazard monitoring.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based computing and data storage solutions (e.g. Azure).

  • Experience deploying AI models for predictive geohazard assessments.
