Our Design Studio team, in our Chicago office is seeking an Entry Level Lighting Designer. This role will support the engineering of systems for a variety of projects while working closely with clients, client reps, architects, and MEP engineers in creating designs for all kind of spaces.

Position Overview 
At dbHMS, Lighting Designers work with Senior Lighting Designers and Electrical Engineers to create lighting designs which meet client goals for visual comfort, aesthetics, and efficiency.  Work includes preparing studies, reports, models and calculations. Additionally, Lighting Designers are responsible for completing drawings and specifications which incorporate both lighting and other electrical systems.
 
Essential Job Functions 
  • Analyze and select lighting from appropriate sources.
  • Ability to support aesthetically pleasing designs with technically competent analysis.
  • Produce architectural drawings using software tools such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Model photometric and energy compliance software relevant to lighting design including AGI32 and COMcheck.
  • Create building mock-ups or prototype models.
  • Assisting senior designers and project managers to provide excellent lighting design services to clients.
  • Support design projects with creative thinking, design research, and project documentation.
  • Read and understand construction documents, floor plans, specifications and equipment details.
  • Attend external meetings to obtain design input and ensure that all facets of the project are correctly coordinated.
  • Help review submittals of equipment for compliance with the contract documents.
Requirements 
  • Enrolled in an accredited Architecture, Interior Design or Lighting Design program or having verifiable lighting design experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Having an understanding and feel for interior design and finishes.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to operate Revit™ BIM software.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  • 1-2 years of experience in Lighting Design is a plus.
