Civil Engineering Rotational Internship (Spring 2026)

BETA Group, Inc is offering an exciting opportunity for motivated and inquisitive Civil Engineering students to join our Rotational Internship Program. This structured internship provides hands-on experience across multiple civil engineering disciplines, allowing interns to gain exposure to a wide range of projects and practices. Interns will rotate through various departments; including structural, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, and construction management to develop a well-rounded understanding of the field and explore areas of interest for future specialization.

While specific duties may vary by rotation, typical responsibilities include:

• Assisting with design calculations, technical drawings, and project documentation
• Supporting fieldwork activities, site inspections, and data collection
• Participating in team meetings and contributing to project planning discussions
• Using engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or GIS tools
• Conducting research and preparing reports under the guidance of professional engineers
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes 
• Ask lots of questions!

Rotational Areas May Include:

• Structural Engineering – Support bridge & culvert design
• Transportation Engineering – Assist with traffic analysis, roadway design, and planning
• Geotechnical Engineering – Conduct soil analysis and foundation design tasks
• Water Resources – Work on stormwater management, flood modeling, and hydraulics
• Environmental Engineering – Assist with environmental assessments and permitting
• Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, & Planning – Contribute to sustainable site design, public space planning, and integrated infrastructure projects 

Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln, RI office.

Skills Required:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in engineering, or related field
• Understanding of general engineering theory and concepts
• Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
• Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
• Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience:

• General working knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD platform
• EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering)
