Role summary
Grimshaw's Los Angeles studio is seeking a Computational Design Specialist to support its architectural teams on projects, promote the use of appropriate tools and workflows, and contribute to the wider CD capabilities of Grimshaw. This person will be expected to have a primarily project-focused view, sometimes across multiple projects, contribute to project discussions, explore and develop opportunities for Design Technology and contribute to local DT strategy internally and externally.
Role expectations
As a Computational Design Specialist at Grimshaw, you will be expected to have a primarily project-focused view, sometimes across multiple projects; contribute to project discussions, exploring and developing opportunities for Design Technology. The CD Specialist will actively contribute to local DT strategy and be relied upon to have extensive knowledge of your area(s) of expertise. There are additional opportunities to represent Grimshaw Design Technology externally through events, online presence and presentations.
Skills
- Advanced proven knowledge of Rhino.
- Advanced proven knowledge of Grasshopper.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Revit or other relevant BIM authoring packages.
- Knowledge of Dynamo.
- Knowledge of interoperability, particularly between Revit and Rhino.
- Knowledge of major Grasshopper plugins such as Kangaroo, Ladybug, Honeybee is beneficial.
- Knowledge of programming with C#, VB, or Python is beneficial.
Experience
- Degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, or another relevant subject.
- Authorized Rhino Trainer certification is beneficial.
- Must have at least 3 years of relevant experience applying computation concepts.
- An understanding of BIM concepts and software is beneficial.
Competencies
- Must be able to clearly articulate advanced concepts in a way that team members of all levels can understand.
- Should possess the ability to train teams in relevant workflows and software packages.
- A methodical approach to problem-solving is required.
- The ability to rapidly pick up new software skills as required is essential.
- Must be highly organized with the ability to prioritize and balance workloads.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $80,000 - $100,000, excluding profit share and other benefits. This is a good faith estimate based on the expectations as laid out in the job description.
