DATS is recruiting on behalf of a leading client renowned for delivering high-specification cleanrooms, laboratories, and specialised facilities across pharmaceutical, life sciences, and healthcare sectors. With a strong reputation for quality and innovation, they are seeking a Senior Architectural Designer to join their dynamic team based in Rochdale.
The Senior Architectural Designer will report to the Principal Architect / Design Lead and take responsibility for architectural design from concept through to detailed design, with involvement in on-site project delivery where necessary. This position provides a fantastic opportunity to apply your expertise to complex, regulated environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, process designers, and construction specialists.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Architectural Designer, you will:

Lead architectural design and coordination for design and build projects within highly regulated environments

Develop compliant architectural solutions for laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and cleanrooms in line with cGMP and ISO 14644 standards

Prepare and manage project documentation across RIBA Stages 1 to 5, including surveys, drawings, specifications, and statutory submissions

Engage with clients to gather requirements and translate them into effective outline and detailed designs

Ensure all designs comply with Safety, Health, and Environment legislation, including CDM regulations

Produce clear and accurate design information to support installation, validation, and quality assurance

Support procurement processes through preparation of schedules and obtaining compliant supplier quotations

Mentor junior colleagues and actively contribute to design team development and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
To be successful as a Senior Architectural Designer, you should have:

A minimum HNC in Building Studies (degree or equivalent in Architecture preferred)

Registered Architect status or actively working towards registration

At least 7 years of architectural experience, including 3+ years in pharmaceutical, cleanroom, or regulated environments

Strong understanding of GMP requirements, ISO standards, and cleanroom design principles

High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office; experience with BIM tools desirable

A proven ability to deliver projects within design and build settings

Solid communication skills and the confidence to liaise across multiple disciplines and with senior stakeholders

A working knowledge of UK building regulations and experience in turnkey project delivery
